Sime Darby Oils is the world’s leading producers of certified sustainable palm oil. The UK operation based in Liverpool has run a successful condition monitoring reliability program for several years. RJW support the site’s CM & lubrication program by providing analysis and reporting of the CM data collected at site level. The site has various assets that are hard to reach or located in hazardous environments. RJW suggested OPTIME as a solution that would alleviate the need to place staff or contractors in hazardous conditions to collect data. OPTIME could also collect regular data from assets that are in hard-to-reach places which usually get missed or forgotten.
To provide a state-of-the-art IoT CM platform to enhance an already efficient reliability program. The system would need to be intuitive with minimal maintenance & technical engineer involvement. The solution would also have to be cost efficient & be delivered within the customers fixed budget parameters.
OPTIME is an efficient and easy-to-use low-cost solution designed specifically for the comprehensive condition monitoring of all types of rotating assets across an entire process plant. The sensors & platform work seamlessly together capturing vibration & temperature data six times a day via its own independent wireless mesh network. This is directly uploaded to the OPTIME cloud platform for automatic analysis. If a fault or anomaly is detected a push notification is sent to the authorised mobile phones via the OPTIME mobile application. RJW provided the Schaeffler Optime solution across the required assets within the Sime Darby Oils Liverpool Plant. An initial survey was carried out by RJW with the site’s reliability team to optimise the placement of sensors to benefit the black spots within the current CM platform. The sensors & platform provided visible data sets within twelve hours. This data can be accessed via the mobile or desktop applications. The provided data is taken into consideration when the site’s monthly asset status report is generated. This has closed the holes in the program for assets that are in hard-to-reach places and/or hazardous environments.
“The OPTIME sensors from Schaeffler have enhanced our Reliability development and site digitisation for 2021/22. The deployment of these sensors as an effective tool in predictive maintenance has given our Reliability Team further capacity to capture failures without affecting plant down time.”
