RJW Rewinds was founded in 1946 by J I Windsor. By 1950, the core business was ship repairs and the company started to expand out into repairing electric motors.
By the 1960s Rewinds refocused from shipping to land-based industrial repairs, and by 1968 Wallasey works was built. Our Wallasey works now houses the largest contract balancing facility in north-west England.
By 1988, Rewinds became the first engineering company of its type to achieve ISO 9002, and the following year the company started to repair servo motors within the electrical workshops. The Permanent Magnet workshop was opened in 1991 which specialised in servo motor and electronics repair.
In 1999, the company acquired C H Rewinds and & George Platt Ltd, bringing the number of employees to 150. The George Platt site was moved from its premises in Edgworth to the CH Rewinds facility in Worsely in 2005. In the same year the company repaired its first wind turbine generator, a service which has thrived to this day.
C H Rewinds and George Platt Ltd were renamed RJW Engineering in 2010, and by the following year RJW opened its first online motor shop, selling motors and inverters.
